The inspector
Exact values for whatever you selected: position, size, rotation, text, font, colour for elements in the picture; timing, transform and volume for clips.
The inspector sits beside the viewer. It's closed until you need it: click something in the picture or a clip on the timeline and it opens, or use Show inspector in the Viewer panel's header or Layout → Inspector. With nothing selected it says Nothing selected.
It shows one of three things: an element in the picture, a clip, or several clips.
An element in the picture
At the top: the element's name and kind (Text, Image, Shape, Box), and a breadcrumb of where it sits in the scene. Click a step in the breadcrumb to select the element that contains it.
The sections that apply to the element follow. The align row, Position and Layout appear for elements inside a clip:
| Section | Fields |
|---|---|
| Text | The words. Changes save when you leave the field; ⌘Enter saves, Esc reverts. |
| (align row) | Align left, horizontal centres, right, top, vertical centres, bottom |
| Position | X, Y and rotation, plus Reset position once you've moved it |
| Layout | W and H, with a lock to scale proportionally or freely |
| Appearance | Opacity, and corner radius for boxes and images |
| Typography | Font, weight, size, line height, letter spacing, alignment (text only) |
| Image | Source and fit (images only) |
| Fill | Colour and background for text; fill for boxes and shapes. Each colour is a swatch (it opens your system's colour picker) and a hex value |
| Stroke | Stroke for shapes |
Repeated elements
When the same element appears several times (a row of cards, say), a switch chooses between This copy (#n) and All n copies. Text is always shared by all copies, and the inspector says so.
Styles set in code
Some styles are worked out in code. The inspector applies your change on top as an override and says so, with Clear to remove it. When a change can't be written back at all, a message explains why and offers Ask AI to do it.
A clip
Select a clip on the timeline to see it here. The header shows its kind (MG, Video, Voice, SFX, Music, Subtitles), its name and its source file.
| Section | Fields |
|---|---|
| Timing | Start, Duration and In point, in seconds |
| Transform | For motion graphics and video: the align row, then X, Y, W, H and rotation, with Reset transform once you've changed them |
| Sound | Volume, for narration, sound effects, music and clips with their own sound |
Several clips
Select several clips on the timeline and the inspector shows how many. If they all have sound, you can set their Volume together; different values show as Mixed.
Ask AI about it
The sparkle button in the header, Ask AI about this layer or Ask AI about this clip, puts a reference to the selection in the composer with "About this:" so you can finish the sentence.
